Edinburgh College of Art: The Play’s the Thing

My self-led senior research project and thesis at the Edinburgh College of Art explores the impact design has on a child's development.  I created a series of play tables which combines the "learning through play" capability of toys with the function of furniture.

  • The "Cognitive" play table was inspired by a child's interest and education in logic and reversibilities.  Holes in the table top and legs become starting points for kids to build ball or toy car ramps and tracks out of recycled cardboard or paper.

  • The "Social" play table uses chalkboard masks as a way to encourage imaginative play and initiate storytelling.
